The Strength of Humility
Today, my calendar presents me with some very wise advice. It says, “Trust God’s pure justice and let Him fight your battles.” Yesterday’s saying was just as personal: “Submit yourself to God and reap the benefits of humility.” God knows we all need to be reminded to live in humility. He knows we need that reminder to give our struggles to Him and leave them with Him. I have always struggled with trying to handle everything myself. That isn't humility. That is pride. As we have talked about so many times, pride never works out in our favor.
While I struggle with wanting to take control and fight every battle, I know God will do a much better job. While my flesh wants to right every injustice and make sure everyone knows my side of every story, I know that isn't necessarily. God doesn't need me to defend Him. He is the Lion of Juda, not the kitten.
We do have a fight to participate in though. While our flesh may want to yell and scream, the Holy Spirit leads us down another path. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 encourages us, “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” This is a spiritual battle we face. We cannot fight with earthly weapons. Our fight is done on our knees, and it is a powerful way to fight.
I am reminded over and over again that God will NEVER ask us to sin. Never. We need to take every thought captive and get it in line with God’s word. The battle is the Lord’s. Our job is to obediently follow His command. Weigh each choice against scripture and chose wisely. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, faithfulness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) Humility isn’t weakness. Humility is getting out of God’s way so He can do what He does best – fight my battles with justice, mercy, and love. (Written by Keegan Harkins.)
