Search for True Treasure

Greed for more taunts us all. We are constantly bombarded with ads telling us to spend more and more on the newest and the fastest products. To spend more, we must make more. Thus, the vicious cycle of yearning and earning keeps us running on a treadmill that leads nowhere. It’s time to get off. It’s time to walk away from the endless quest for more and focus on what is important. Proverbs 23:4-5 teaches, “Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.”

End the cycle of striving to spend. Enjoy the here and the now. There is beauty in every situation we find ourselves in… even the ones that are dark and painful. God never leaves those who love and obey Him. He gives us what we need but loves us far too much to always give us what we want. Verses 17 and 18 of Proverbs 23 tell us, “Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” We don’t need to fill our earthly life with the clutter of materialism. Nothing we can obtain now comes close to comparing with what awaits us in heaven. Spend your time doing good and caring for others instead of chasing after the mirage of riches and fame. Live in this moment. Find the beauty of kindness and love. Fill your life with the treasures of scripture, compassion, obedience, and mercy. Nothing you find on the shelves of a store can ever compare to the splendor of these riches. Get off the treadmill and enjoy the scenery of the life God has given you.
