Promises We Rest In

Our final look into the book of Joel is one of hope. As Christians, our life is defined by hope. Our faith, as Hebrews 11:1 explains, is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Joel promises us that “The Lord is a refuge to His people, a stronghold to the people of Israel.” We are the people of the Lord. We have safety in our Heavenly Father’s protection. No matter how the world threatens or beats against us, our God is stronger, His protection is ultimate, and our victory through Christ complete!

Returning back to Psalm 2 one last time during this the final look into Joel, let us find peace and comfort in God’s protection. Psalm 2:10-11 says, “Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, with trembling kiss His feet, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way; for His wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.”

God is our refuge, our high tower in the day of trouble. Only by the name of Jesus will we escape the war raging against the souls of this world. The time is running short. Even now, enemies of the Lord prepare for a battle they are doomed to eternally lose. No matter what tomorrow brings for us, our souls are safe. Our names are sealed for Heaven. Ephesians 1:4-6 promises, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. He destined us in love to be His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.” Let us spend our final moments on this worldly plane by standing boldly for our faith. Let us love with the rarity of Christ’s perfect love. Let us forgive and pray for those who hate us. Let us lay it all down for the hope that God wins and we will rejoice with Him for all eternity.
