God of Comfort

God gives comfort to His people. He doesn’t simply watch from above and distance Himself from our struggles and pain. He feels our sorrow and smiles at our joy. Paul gives us a beautiful description of God’s character in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. He wrote, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” What a beautiful picture of love and support of community and family in the faith. God comforts us so that we can pass that comfort on to others. God invests in us so that we will be encouraged to invest in others. There is no heart God does not long to mend. There is no tear He does not long to wipe away. Open up your heart and let God in. Give Him your fears and your struggles and accept His comfort. Becoming a Christian doesn’t make our lives instantly without trouble or problems. Faith whispers words of comfort in our darkest hours. It reminds us to whom the victory belongs. Though we struggle for a little while, we will see the day when Christ returns and takes dominion over this wayward world. We can take comfort in God’s ability. We can rely on His compassion and lean on God’s strength to carry us through. Accept the comfort God pours out and pass it on to those who haven’t heard the message of freedom.
